Magico is proud to launch the A series. At long last a Magico loudspeaker obtainable for a wider audience; the A3 brings together a bevy of technologies unheard-of at its price point. A fully braced and anodized aluminum enclosure, beryllium tweeter, carbon Nanographene cones, neodymium based motor systems and our renowned elliptical crossover, the A3 is the impossible made possible.

High Frequency driver

Extended high frequencies are provided by a newly designed Magico pure beryllium-diaphragm tweeter with an optimized 28-mm dome surface based on the fundamental design platform and geometry of the M-Project tweeter.

The customized neodymium motor system is encased in an improved back chamber with our latest generation damping materials that facilitate ultra-low distortion, higher power handling, massive dynamic capabilities and extended linear voice coil movement.

Midrange Frequency driver

The newly developed 6-inch midrange employs a Multi-Wall carbon fiber cone with a layer of XG Nanographene, providing optimal stiffness to weight ratios and an ideal damping factor. Overhung neodymium based motor systems incorporate extra-large magnets to ensure a stabilized magnetic field in the 75-mm pure titanium voice coils of both the midrange and bass drivers.

Low Frequency Drivers

Dual 7-inch woofers incorporate a version of the new Gen 8 Magico Nano-Tec cone. The same properties and materials that allow for the proper combination of stiffness, mass and damping are carried through to the lowest frequencies. The chassis has also been simulated and tested for the optimal combination of stiffness and damping. Minimum acoustical impact is achieved through reducing vibration modes while maximizing air flow. A new overhung neodymium (N48) based motor system anchors the low frequency reproducers to accomplish a super stabilized magnetic field. A pure Titanium, 75mm voice coils are consistent with the technology utilized through the midrange. The A3 Midrange and Low frequency drivers were optimized for minimal music related distortions in its band pass, in both the frequency and time domains using latest state of the art FEA simulation of acoustical, mechanical, electromagnetic and thermal behavior. All of this is now being done on a single platform, allowing Magico to take the next step in performance optimization.

Crossover

All four drivers in the A3 are acoustically integrated using Magico’s proprietary Elliptical Symmetry Crossover topology that utilizes state-of-the-art components from Mundorf of Germany. The 3-way network features a 24db per octave Linkwitz-Riley filter that maximizes frequency bandwidth while preserving phase linearity and minimizing intermodulation distortion.

Enclosure

The A3’s massive sealed-enclosure is, like all Magicos, a tour-de-force of engineering. The enclosure is made entirely from 6061 T6 aircraft grade aluminum, identical materially to the enclosure developed for the Q Series. This braced, complex internal structure is finished externally with an elegant brushed anodized “skin”. The A3 enclosure is best considered as a simplified Q Series design, with the same materials, the same craftsmanship, and the same attention to design and build detail. With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that Charles Hansen, founder of Ayre Acoustics, has passed away on November 28th, 2017. Those who knew Charley knew that he was a passionate man who always stood up for what he believed to be right. His family knew him as a loving and dedicated father of his two children. With the passing of Charley, the world has lost one of the most creative and innovative minds in the audio industry and we have lost a good friend.

Don’t let the familiar face fool you: Aida maintains the typical lute shape and the typical design elements that made it so recognizable, has been completely overhauled, embracing the most advanced electroacoustic developments of the latest years. This “3 and 2/3 way” loudspeaker system features the patented “Stealth Ultraflex”, for a better bass extension, the “Anima Legata” system and the “Tuned Mass Dampers”, for maximum elimination of inner spurious vibration, the patented “Zero Vibration Transmission”, for saving the listening environment from the spread of vibration and for a better performance of the infrawoofer, and the “Sound Field Shaping” technology, for a new dimensionality of sound and perceived size of the sound-stage. THE VOICE OF SONUS FABER

New combination of tweeter and midrange creates the “Voice of Sonus faber”, the iconic configuration of driver technology capable of maintaining the effortless, warm and involving timbre that has become our trademark thanks to the 28 mm tweeter with silk dome and “Arrow Point” DAD (Damped Apex Dome, the dampening system to avoid counter phase vibrations of the dome) and to the midrange with cellulose pulp cone and Neodymium motor system.

 

STEALTH ULTRAFLEX SYSTEM

Patented system that allows a big reduction of the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) and a better bass extension while minimizing distortion and eliminating spurious vibration coming from the air passage inside the reflex duct. Aida Stealth Ultraflex system has a high ratio between width and height and allows reducing the dimensions of acoustic chambers.

TUNED MASS DAMPER

The TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) is a device normally used in the biggest world’s skyscrapers and consists in some suspended masses placed inside of the speakers; while vibrating in antiphase, the TMD erases main vibrations and allows a clearer bass reproduction and a better silence reproduction.

ZERO VIBRATION TRANSMISSION

The purpose of this technology is decoupling the loudspeaker system from the ground, avoiding spurious vibration to spread in the listening environment. Springs and elastomers are placed on the base; their decoupling compliance is carefully calculated in reason of the weight of the speaker and allows a more powerful performance of the down firing infrawoofer and a perfect tuning of the entire loudspeaker system.

SOUND FIELD SHAPER

This rear facing mid and high loudspeaker system is developed to make the music reproduction as natural as possible and precisely control the dimensionality and perceived size of the sound-stage. The listener will be able to optimize the Sound Field Shaper according to personal taste and listening room characteristics.

TWEETER
Sonus faber “Arrow Point” DAD (Damped Apex Dome, synthesis of the classic dome and ring transducer) H28 XTR-04. A Sonus faber designed 28 mm moving coil driver, with Sonus faber’s vibration optimized mechanical interface. The ultra-dynamic linearity is given by the Neodymium motor system. Implemented with a natural wood acoustic labyrinth rear chamber, a mechanical anti-resonator designed for this application.

MIDRANGE
Sonus faber M18 XTR-04. A Sonus faber designed 180 mm Neodymium magnet system ultra-dynamic linearity midrange. CCAW wire is used on a composite former “eddy current free” voice coil. The dynamically linear magnetic field motor incorporates triple Kellog/Goeller rings. A special custom diaphragm is made with a real-time air dried non-pressed blend of traditional cellulose pulp, Kapok, Kenaf and other natural fibers, developed according to the most natural sound. To further inhibit any residual cone coloration, we are using a transparent viscous surface damping coating. The basket is thoroughly optimized to eliminate any resonance, fully CNC machined from solid billets of Avional and Gunmetal. The combination of the two different metals allows eliminating any mutual resonance. The same way as the tweeter, the midrange is decoupled from the main baffle board and designed synergistically with its optimized “acoustic chamber”. A special coaxial anti-compressor is used, designed to remove cavity resonances and distortions.

WOOFERS
Sonus faber W22XTR-12. A pair of Sonus faber designed 220 mm Neodymium magnet system woofers, lightweight “sandwich” cone structure (high-tech syntactic foam core and two external surface skins of cellulose pulp) woofers. Each of them is integrated in its own acoustically amorphous “stealth reflex” chamber. Designed to blend perfectly with the special midrange and, at the same time, to have absolute definition in their range: the sandwich structure with outer paper pulp skins has the same sonic character of the midrange cone. A powerful long stroke motor system with a 2” controlled “eddy current” voice coil is implemented for high speed, performance and linearity.

INFRA WOOFER
Sonus faber SW32XTR-08. A Sonus faber designed 320 mm Neodymium magnet system infra woofer, sandwich cone structure with high-tech syntactic foam core and two external surface skins in Nano Carbon Fiber for maximum rigidity and light weight. An impressive 4” voice-coil, inside and outside winding design to take advantage of the magnet field strength and to control the Lorentz currents proportionally to the excursion obtaining this way the tightest available lows. To perfectly match the low-end performance to different listening rooms it is possible to adapt the SPL of the infra woofer.

SOUND FIELD SHAPER
The patented “Sound field Shaper” technology, allows the control of the direct/reverberant radiation ratio of the Aida. The sound field shaping module can be SPL optimized.

SOUND FIELD SHAPER TWEETER
Sonus faber “Arrow Point” DAD 29XTR2. A Sonus faber designed 29 mm moving coil driver. The ultra-dynamic linearity is given by the new Neodymium motor system.

SOUND FIELD SHAPER MIDRANGE
Sonus faber M8XTR. A pair of Sonus faber designed 80 mm ultra-dynamic linearity midrange. CCAW wire is used on a controlled “eddy current free” voice coil. The dynamically linear magnetic field motor has focused field geometry. A special custom diaphragm is made with a blend of traditional cellulose pulp, Kapok, Kenaf and other natural fibers. A special coaxial anti-compressor is used, designed to remove cavity resonance and distortions.

CROSS-OVER
Non-resonant crossover, optimized amplitude/phase response for optimal space/time performance. “Paracross topology” for maximum transparency. The impedance at low frequencies is controlled for a clear and friendly amplifier performance. Double staggered transfer function low frequency/room interface optimized filter. Highest quality is used in terms of the components: last generation Mundorf Supreme Evo, Aluminium Oil and Silver/Gold/Oil capacitors, Mundorf Supreme resistors and Jantzen Cross-coils inductors. Cross-over frequencies: 55Hz – 150 Hz – 200Hz – 3000.
