The soulution 746+ is the ultimate CD/SACD-Player for music lovers with highest expectations regarding musicality and precision of the music reproduction. The excellent 746 player unit gets combined with an ultimate, much more powerful external power supply and thus forms the 746+ SACD-Player. The anyway outstanding sonic qualities of the 746 player unit get emphasised even further. Much more than just a CD/SACD player it bridges the gap between the digital and the analogue worlds.

Production of this unique SACD-Player is limited to 20 units.

External power supply

The external power supply consists of three separate and electrically isolated sections, all complemented by multi-state filter network which keeps mutual interference across the three to a minimum. Key to any good sounding audio component is a stable and noise-free power supply – especially for the audio stages. For powering the analog stages an innovative, amplifier-like circuit design is used, providing an extremely stable supply voltage with ripple levels below 0.01µV. With more than 500’000 µFarad of storage capacitance it provides almost unlimited impulse current for the analog circuits. Bus bars supply this power throughout the unit without loss. A unique concept in the audio world, this allows the same high quality supply to be delivered to all parts of the 746+.

Power supplies for the digital and drive sections of the player are similarly highly specified and optimised for their respective functions, including accommodating any high current demands from the drive and its electronics.

Wilson Benesch revisits High Performance Furniture.

The Triptych (1993) the world’s first carbon fibre turntable support and the Asside (1998) the worlds first carbon fibre equipment support, furniture that enabled the benefits of carbon fibre to be extended to audio furniture. (See the Timeline) Two decades later and after many years of careful consideration a new interpretation will be launched at this years Munich Show. The R1 is the result of decades of on going scientific research including recent work undertaken at Sheffield Hallams Metrology Department where laser analysis enabled a number of assumptions to be validated.

Key Features:
A precision machined, advanced carbon fibre composite audio equipment rack providing optimal operational conditions for digital and analogue audio components.
Intrinsically self damping Polyoxymethylene vertical columns. Precision machined finish delivers exacting tolerances.
The Carbon Fibre Isobar – an anisotropic super structure that incorporates a high tension internal compression bolt that exerts 14 tons per square inch of axial pressure on the carbon.
The shelf to carbon interface is machined to provide optimal loading of the carbon fibre via off axis pinch point loading at 120 degrees.
The management and control of structural borne vibration is critical in any audio structure. The R1 provides an elegant solution to a number of key concerns through clever engineering that is deceptively simple. The success of this design enables the R1 to be delivered fully assembled in tiers. Once the base tier is accurately referenced to the floor assembly takes a matter of minutes. Each tier is kinematically coupled by four precision ball bearings that are energy transfer nodes. Each of the four ball and sockets incorporate a low profile circumferential ring of visco elastic material that ensures the exact same mass loading at each Node.
The Base Tier provides four, fully adjustable precision machined floor cups that were developed for the Cardinal. Each ball in each of these junctions sees 100 of tons of pressure at the interface ensuring optimal energy transfer to ground.
The R1 is shipped fully assembled as single base and standard levels. the R1 is a modular design allowing any number of additional levels to be added according to the requirements of the system.

Chord Electronics has launched its most advanced DAC to date. Given the acronym DAVE (Digital to Analogue Veritas in Extremis), Chord’s latest-generation digital-to-analogue convertor features the very best conversion technology available, using proprietary techniques never seen before.

The Chord DAVE DAC is a highly advanced reference-grade DAC, digital preamp and headphone amplifier. Hand-made in Kent, DAVE is based around a proprietary FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) offering more than ten times the program capacity of its predecessor.

At its heart lies a new LX75 version of the Spartan 6 Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The FPGA’s extraordinary capability enables a number of key sonic benefits including significantly improved timing and the best noise-shaper performance of any known DAC. Chord DAVE DAC’s technology delivers music with unmatched reality and musicality, with an unrivalled timing response.

HD range:
A powerful monobloc amplifier with quite exceptional performance in terms of musicality and expressiveness. In order to achieve this result, the amp’s circuits have been designed with a view to obtaining total precision and running stability. Built around MOSFET transistors capable of delivering more than a constant 1’000 W RMS at low impedance and displaying a 1 MHz DC bandwidth at -5 dB, the amp is completely exceptional in every area: respect of the phase under all conditions, reaction time, distortion and residual noise reduced to negligible levels (THD + N < 0.003 %). With a 1’600 VA transformer which alone weighs in at 18 kg, each Nagra monobloc HD amp is supremely capable of managing the most difficult and complex loads. If it contributes to the lightning-speed dynamics of the amplifier, the massive power is nonetheless handled with complete control, without a hint of brutality and always preserving the subtlety of the musical content. Visitors to the show will be able to experience the benefits afforded by this nocompromise approach.

dCS Launches New ROSSINI Network Player and DAC

dCS is proud to announce its new Rossini series – designed to make superb sounding digital music from any source more easily accessible.

A premium-priced complete digital front end that replaces Puccini in the dCS range, it comes in two versions – the $22,499 (£15,000) Rossini DAC and $26,999 (£18,000) Rossini Player; setting the new performance standard for single-box digital systems. Matching Rossini Master Clock ($TBD) will ship in July/August, 2015.

Rossini DAC features an array of digital audio inputs and is able to stream music from NAS drives and streaming services such as TIDAL™, Spotify™ and Deezer™ over Ethernet, from Apple devices via Airplay™, and audio via industry-standard USB, AES and S/PDIF digital inputs. Rossini Player adds an integral, high quality Compact Disc transport for silver disc playback.

Designed for flexibility and ease of use without compromise, both DAC and Player deliver excellent performance by using the very latest dCS Digital Processing Platform and Ring DACTM technology, originally developed for the flagship Vivaldi series. Rossini uses a new streamlined processing platform – its single FPGA bringing improved signal processing, superior flexibility and effectively future-proofing the Rossini series.

Rossini has a brand new user interface, plus a custom control app that lets listeners manage their music playback experience from any source in an elegantly simple way – accessing CD, iRadio, digital and UPnP sources all from one control point. The Rossini app also features an intuitive install and configuration wizard.

The multi-stage oversampling design offers optional DSD upsampling plus an extensive selection of DSP filters to suit individual taste and music type. The Rossini Player’s CD mechanism does not support SACD, but SACD data can be played via Dual AES output from dCS Vivaldi, Scarlatti or Paganini Transports.

The network streaming functionality within Rossini DAC and Player is unparalleled in terms of processing power and jitter performance, and currently runs at up to 24-bit, 384kS/s and DSD128 supporting all major lossless codecs, DSD in DOP format and native DSD.

Rossini utilises the simple yet highly effective dCS auto clocking system, which minimises jitter and improves sound quality significantly.

British designed and made to the highest standards, Rossini’s elegant chassis uses aerospace-grade machined aluminium with internal acoustic damping panels to reduce sound-degrading mechanical vibration and magnetic effects.

Multi-stage power regulation is employed, with twin mains transformers to isolate the analogue, digital and clock circuitry.

Rossini features an enhanced digital volume control for use as a digital preamp with variable output straight into a power amplifier, or as a fixed-level source component.

As with all dCS products, Rossini’s firmware can be easily updated via CD, USB or the new software download and update functionality, to add new features or improve performance over its lifetime.
