The salient aspect of the woofer, is to merge high definition, the prerogative of the ‘sandwich’ cones, and an identity in synergy with the sound of the midrange. This goal was reached by developing a “sandwich” membrane that combines a “heart” in hi-tech rigid syntactic foam with external layers in treated cellulose pulp. The 1.5” voice coils “controlled Eddy Current”, together with the powerful long stroke magnetic motor, are guarantees for excellent performance, both from the dynamic point of view and that of linearity.

Nordost will introduce its new Valhalla 2 Reference Cable Range at the High End Show, M.O.C. in Munich, Germany on May 9, 2013.
The latest range consists of analog, digital, and tonearm interconnects, as well as loudspeaker and power cables. The new Valhalla 2 range uses upgraded Dual Mono-Filament technology, along with an innovative proprietary connector called the HOLO:PLUG™. The HOLO:PLUG™ is a patent pending connector, designed to be the best possible interface between the cable and the component. Perfect signal integrity can be measured throughout the system. Designed to transfer every last nuance of detail, the HOLO:PLUG™ is a miracle of mechanical and electrical integrity. The Valhalla 2 Analog Interconnect uses Dual Mono-Filament technology with ten silver plated, 24 AWG, oxygen free copper conductors. The cable is available in single ended and balanced versions and is terminated with our proprietary HOLO:PLUG™ RCA or XLR connectors.
Valhalla 2 Loudspeaker Cables use Dual Mono-Filament technology with 28 silver plated, 22 AWG, oxygen free copper conductors. The cable is available to be terminated with new gold plated HOLO:PLUG™ spade connectors or gold plated Nordost Z plug bananas.
For turntable users, Nordost has introduced a dedicated tonearm cable to the Valhalla 2 range. It uses Dual Mono-Filament technology with four silver plated, 24 AWG, oxygen free copper conductors. The Valhalla 2 Tonearm Cable is available with HOLO:PLUG™ RCA or XLR connectors, terminated with a standard or 90 degree mini-din connector. Its standard minimum length is 1.25 meters, but it can be ordered in additional half meter increments. For digital applications there are two elegant solutions: a 75 ohm Valhalla 2 Digital Cable, terminated with a BNC connector for best impedance matching (supplied with a gold plated BNC/RCA adapter) and a 110 ohm dual conductor Valhalla 2 AES/EBU, terminated with a balanced Neutrik XLR connector. The Valhalla 2 Power Cord uses Dual Mono-Filament technology with seven silver plated, 16 AWG, oxygen free copper conductors. It is terminated with our new carbon fiber HOLO:PLUG™ IEC in 15 and 20 amp versions. US and European HOLO:PLUG™ connectors are available. speaker. Period. While still most at home in near-boundary installations, the
Series 2 has been simplified, it’s essence distilled into a purer,
performance-oriented form. Introducing Duette Series 2.

Duette Series-2 at a glance:
•The Duette Series-2’s tweeter performance is enhanced by the inclusion of the rear wave chamber from Wilson’s Convergent Synergy Tweeter. The rear tweeter baffle is borrowed from the Alexia version of Wilson’s CST design. The wave chamber substantially reduces chamber-born diffraction. Reducing these artifacts greatly lowers the noise floor, and results in higher treble resolution. Detail naturally emerges from a grainless, black background.
•The Series-2 features an all new cabinet. The primary goal was to greatly enhance the time-domain performance of Duette. The front baffle is angled at approximately 10° to align the tweeter and the woofer. Additionally, the main body of the cabinet is now built entirely out of Wilson’s proprietary composite, X-material, including the internal bracing. The baffle is built from Wilson’s newest composite, S-material. This combination has proven to yield the best combination of resonance control and beautiful tonality.
•The design has been simplified. The goal was to substantially increase Duette’s performance in the most commonly used applications. Duette is now fully optimized for vertical placement only, eschewing the need for the Magnepods® imbedded in the enclosure. Instead, receptacles in the bottom of the Series-2 take a specially designed diode foot, and facilitate its attachment to the new dedicated stand.
•The New Series-2 Dedicated Stand seamlessly integrates the separate Novel crossover, and provides captive dressing for the umbilical. Greater attention has been paid to the draining of resonances away from the Duette—the Duette Series-2 is bolted directly to the stand.

Lexington, KY – April 29th, 2013 — THIEL Audio has announced the introduction of the CS1.7 Coherent Source® floorstanding loudspeaker. The CS1.7 employs THIEL’s renowned phase and time coherent design using precision engineered first order acoustic crossover networks and the latest technology for the woofer and tweeter engineered by THIEL specifically for the CS1.7 project.
The CS1.7s follow a long tradition of THIEL 2-way floorstanding speakers beginning with the Model 04 in 1979. Each new iteration of this series from THIEL has received accolades from audiophile journalists and music lovers worldwide. The CS1.7 seeks to establish new standards for resolution of detail, imaging and staging, dynamic capability, and tonal purity for those consumers seeking ultra high fidelity from an attractive, compact form factor.
The technology employed in the CS1.7 design is all new, leveraging much of the R&D from the flagship model CS3.7. The CS1.7 tweeter, based on the platform used in the enormously popular CS1.6 has been highly optimized for the CS1.7 featuring a new voice coil, new magnetic circuit and reworked aluminum diaphragm resulting in increased linearity and lower distortion. The aluminum woofer’s “star” diaphragm was conceived using the latest laser measurement technology and also utilizes a new voice coil and magnetic structure that enables the driver to operate as a piston through a much greater range of frequencies. The crossover network is a classic THIEL first order acoustic design, maintaining the phase and time coherent nature of all THIEL loudspeakers. The cabinet is 1-inch thick and the massive baffle, with a low turbulence vertical port, is 2-inches thick, delivering the ultimate in rigidity and inertness. Even the magnetically adhered grill has been carefully engineered to prevent any diffraction. The CS1.7 comes equipped with leveling feet, however an optional brushed aluminum Outrigger base (pictured here) is available to improve the sonic performance of the speaker by maximizing stability on virtually any surface.

AudioQuest have introduced the entry point in the Tree Series speaker cable line, Aspen. Aspen and the other Tree Series speaker cables are comprised of many tried-and-true AQ design elements such as Perfect-Surface metals and conductor-size optimization (AQ’s Spread-Spectrum Technology), along with significant newer developments, like Double Counter-Spiral Geometry, AudioQuest’s patented Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) and Noise-Dissipation System (NDS).
Double Counter-Spiral geometry involves a carefully finessed placement of different-size conductors, and in this case, different metals (Perfect-Surface Copper and Perfect-Surface Copper+), in each conductor section of the cable. Each of these conductor sections has the negative conductors spiraling in one direction around the positive conductors, which spiral in the opposite direction for a geometry that is as close to self-shielding as possible. The resulting reduction in distortion is audible as more focused, 3D and engaging sound, furthering AQ’s never-ending goal to Do No Harm to the original signal. Please note too that AudioQuest now offers a Single-BiAmp option for any Rocket, Rock or Tree Series speaker cable, including Aspen. Although similar to a Single-BiWire configuration in which the speaker end has four connectors, the Single-BiAmp configuration also has four connectors at the amplifier end to accommodate the growing number of users who wish to take full advantage of all the amplifier channels in many of today’s AV receivers and multichannel power amplifiers.
As with the other Tree Series cables, Aspen’s separate, 8-conductor sections provide magnetic autonomy of each conductor section and allow it to offer true Double-BiWire performance in a single attractive cable. Of course Aspen is also perfect for full Double-BiWiring, which still has undeniable advantages in many applications.
A very recent advancement featured in Aspen (and all other Tree and Rock Series speaker cables) is the addition of the sleek new “Hanging-Silver” 1000 Series Multi-Spades and Bananas. Originally developed for the WEL Signature Series speaker cables, these plugs are made using a “hanging silver over pure Red Copper” process in which the spades and bananas are submerged (“hung”) into a vat of extreme-purity silver, resulting in a very thick direct-silver plate. No intermediary performance-degrading materials (such as nickel or alloy) are used. Also new to Aspen is a more-neatly-sculpted “breakout” (the covering where the cable separates into red and black legs), which is now made of a synthetic non-magnetic polymer, rather than metal.
We’ve made this all-models upgrade because speaker cables and AC power cables carry large magnetic fields which interact with any metal “collar” around the cable. Eliminating metal in the breakouts is another significant (and clearly audible) step in AQ’s goal of making the cable as sonically “invisible” as possible.
Aspen is a worthy addition to the Tree Series, continuing AudioQuest’s proud heritage of high-value/ high-performance speaker cable designs.
