Revel by HARMAN today previewed the Performa3 Be concept loudspeakers, based on the award-winning Performa3 Series product range, at CES 2017. Based on Revel’s Performa3 F208 and M106 models, the Performa3 Be concepts include two new models: the F208Be 3-way floorstanding loudspeaker and M106Be 2-way bookshelf loudspeaker. The concepts feature the latest waveguide geometry, Beryllium and Deep Ceramic Composite (DCC) transducer technology and premium crossover network designs.
The Revel F208Be employs a 1-inch Beryllium dome tweeter inspired by Revel’s Ultima2 series and patented fifth generation Acoustic Lens Waveguide to deliver a remarkably transparent and detailed high frequency response and seamless integration with the mid-range. The Be concept also features a newly developed DCC cone technology that yields a durable ceramic surface to the aluminum cones and results in an ideal stiffness to weight ratio.
With a single 5.25-inch DCC cone for midrange frequency and two 8-inch DCC cone woofers with cast Aluminum frames for low frequency response, the F208Be delivers a remarkably smooth frequency response with extension to 40kHz. The loudspeaker is designed with aesthetics matching the award-winning Performa3 series with curved side panel, rounded back enclosures and includes High Frequency and Boundary Compensation controls.
Utilizing the same 1-inch Beryllium dome tweeter and waveguide mated to a 6.5-inch DCC cone woofer for low frequency response, Revel’s Performa3 M106Be bookshelf loudspeaker offers clear, highly resolved sound with extension to 40kHz. Built with a compact form factor, the M106Be can be shelf-mounted or stand-mounted with optional M Stand accessory floor stands.

The Performa3 Be Series concept loudspeakers feature magnetically-attached black cloth grills, and are available in a furniture-grade high-gloss wood veneer finish or automotive-grade high-gloss painted finishes, including Walnut, Black, White, and Beryllium Metallic.

At CES 2017, Mark Levinson by HARMAN today introduced the № 515 Turntable, designed for the discriminating analog music lover. Designed and built in partnership with industry-leader VPI Industries, the № 515 Turntable is handcrafted in the USA, and is the first turntable worthy of the Mark Levinson name.
The № 515 is the perfect complement to the Pure Phono stage included in the recently released № 526 and № 523 pre-amplifiers. A premium-caliber turntable, the № 515 leverages superior technologies and craftsmanship from VPI Industries to deliver performance, features and appearance unique to Mark Levinson.
The № 515 is based on a highly damped vinyl-wrapped MDF and aluminum sandwich main chassis. The chassis is supported by machined Delrin and Aluminum Mark Levinson feet with a vibration-damping polymer core. The 20-pound Aluminum platter rotates on an inverted bearing, which employs a hardened stainless steel shaft spinning in a phosphor bronze bushing for maximum rotational accuracy.
The powerful high torque AC synchronous motor is mounted to a separate vinyl-MDF-Aluminum sandwich chassis and housed in its own mechanically isolated enclosure. A precision-machined pulley and triple belt drive system provide smooth, quiet operation. A custom-designed, low-distortion analog oscillator and discrete, class AB power amplifier deliver pristine power to the synchronous motor for accurate 33 and 45 RPM operation.
The № 515 features a gimbal-mounted, 3D-printed tonearm with integral headshell, stainless steel counterweight, and discrete internal cartridge lead routing. The tonearm is mounted to a rigid, machined Aluminum arm base featuring on-the-fly adjustable vertical tracking angle. A custom designed stainless steel record weight and platter mat ensure maximum stability of playback.
“The № 515 is being released during a time of rapid growth and resurgence in turntable and vinyl record sales,” said Jim Garrett, Director of Marketing and Product Management, HARMAN. “It celebrates our 45th anniversary and provides a first-class analog source for our new 500 Series.”
“This turntable was engineered to be a perfect complement our Pure Phono stage. The warmth, fidelity and overall listening experience delivered by the № 515 absolutely must be heard to be appreciated,” said Todd Eichenbaum, Director of Engineering, HARMAN.
The № 515 turntable will be available either with or without a factory installed moving coil phono cartridge.
Pricing starts at $10,000 for the version without phono cartridge, and both versions will be available in Summer 2017.

Nordost Valhalla2 USB 2.0 Cable

Nordost is proud to announce the introduction of the new, Valhalla 2 USB 2.0 Cable ($3499.99) at CES 2017 within the Venetian in room 29-136, thus further expanding the company’s acclaimed Valhalla 2 range. Due to the increasing amount of data and information being processed through music servers and hard-drive storage systems, as well as the rising popularity of high-resolution audio downloads, the use of hifi, audio-specific USB cables is critical to the fidelity of sound reproduction. In order to improve upon Nordost already stellar USB cable offerings, and meet Nordost lofty standard for its Reference Valhalla 2 range, a total redesign was in order.
The Valhalla 2 USB 2.0 is revolutionary in terms of USB cable design. For the first time, Nordost is introducing a flat, twin-axial geometry to its USB cables. This innovative layout allows the two signal wires to run parallel, compared to the standard twisted-pair configuration, shortening the signal path and drastically increasing transfer speeds.
Another advantage to a twin-axial design is the ability to separate the power (positive) and ground (negative) legs of the cable, isolating them from signal and each other, minimizing the effects of harmful interference. The Valhalla 2 USB 2.0 then goes one step further, taking the precaution of isolating the signal conductors, by covering each power leg with a finely-braided, silver shield, as well as enclosing both signal conductors in their own braided, silver shields. Each shield is connected to the metal plated backshell, completely ridding the cable of any EMI or RFI and eliminating noise.
In addition to these advances, the Valhalla 2 USB 2.0 still uses all of the main technologies and design structures that Nordost has built its reputation upon. The V2 USB 2.0 is constructed using four, 19 AWG solid core, silver-plated copper conductors. Each conductor, both power and signal, is suspended in Nordost proprietary Dual Mono-Filament technology, increasing the dielectric and mechanical damping, while maintaining the overall flexibility of the cable. It also takes advantage of Nordost unique, mechanically tuned lengths, reducing internal microphonics and high-frequency impedance resonance.
Of course, as with all of our Valhalla 2 cables, the V2 USB is completed with a HOLO:PLUG connector. Nordost purpose-built this fully shielded, low mass USB connector to ensure that there is no loss of signal transfer from the cable to the connectors themselves. The Valhalla 2 USB 2.0 is the only solution on the market capable of elevating digital streaming, attaining true, reference-quality results. The Valhalla USB 2.0 cable is available in one meter increments up to 7 meters. Suggested retail price for this product is set at $3,499.99 for a 1 meter length, while additional 1 meter increments are $1200.
