Reference Ultime Two SX
The Reference Ultime Two made an immediate impression when it was released in 2021. This full d’Appolito arrayed 3-way reference speaker displayed its power and speed to convey the full excitement of musical performance. The Reference Ultime Two took the concepts that have become synonymous with everything that Stenheim stands for – full aluminium enclosures, highly efficient and dynamic organic drivers and superbly engineered crossovers made from world-class components – and put them in package that could fill large rooms and do justice to the finest audio systems.
The Reference Ultime Two is now available mounted on the Reference Platform U2 introduced in 2023 as an optional extra, creating the Reference Ultime Two SX.
The aluminium billet platform is constructed in a star shape out of 35kg (77 lbs) of solid aluminium, giving The Reference Ultime Two speakers greatly increased stability through enlarging their footprint considerably whilst at the same time providing optimal damping through its sheer mass. It is additionally designed to make it much easier to switch from the castors that enable the speakers to be positioned, to the spikes that will provide their permanent support. The platform’s spikes also offer a greater range of adjustment: 5cm (2.5 inches) in total than the standard spikes, and this is much easier to achieve by simply turning the hefty, knurled knobs. The result is that the sound can be fine-tuned as the speakers can be tilted from the vertical to provide the optimum angle in complete safety. Finally, different floor types can be catered for, as the Platform ships with three different spike ends for adapting it to thick carpet, hard or delicate floors.
Mating the already sonically impressive Reference Ultime Two to the Reference Platform U2 raises sound reproduction to even greater heights. The Platform extracts every drop of performance from the speakers through the damping and stability it provides as well as the set-up advantages it affords. For loudspeakers, set up is key to enable them to perform to their full potential, with even very small increments of height, rake or toe-in producing easily discernible differences in the sound. The Reference Ultime Two SX now offers more set-up adjustment than ever before through not only the U2 Platform but also the room control fine-tuning rear panel with which every Reference Ultime Two is equipped.
